All people have a right to wellness and empowered connection to their health.
People's Medicine Project is a health justice organization in Western Massachusetts that focuses on increasing access to alternative health care.
At the People’s Medicine Project, we believe that no one is healed until we all are. We believe that creating a more just system of health means increasing access to alternative medicine, especially in communities that have experienced disproportionate amounts of social, economic, or environmental disadvantage.
Our work to increase access to alternative care improves health outcomes, works towards health justice, and builds the resilience of our greater community.
The People's Medicine Project works specifically to increase accessto alternative healthcare by:
1. Running a free alternative health clinic every Monday at the Western Mass Recover Project in Greenfield. Our volunteer practitioners (including herbalists, acupuncturists, cranio-sacral therapists, massage therapist, homeopaths, and more) see clients most in need of health support who would not otherwise be able to afford these services.
2. Running a medicinal herb garden at the Just Roots Community Farm. Here, clinic clients and community members tend and harvest herbs; and learn to make their own herbal medicines. We also teach herbal workshops at the garden site, and make medicine for the clinic. 3. Running an acupuncture access program for people in early opioid recovery. Through a collaboration with Greenfield Community Acupuncture, we ensure that people coming off opioids have unlimited access to acupuncture.
